A material so refined it’s favoured by the British Royal Family, Bone China is a type of porcelain, more transparent and durable than standard porcelain.

The words “Bone China” traditionally refer to the use of bone ash in the materials composition.

The grade of Bone China used to create the Craftsmans™ Silhouette lampshade is referred to as Fine Bone China.

Utilised by few in the lighting industry, its elegant ivory finish, warm tones and magnificently relaxed light when lit shifts Coolicon lampshades from industrial settings into the refined comforts of the home.

The only lampshade in the Coolicon family to not incorporate the patented vent design; the Silhouette masters bi-directional light by utilising the translucent properties of the Fine Bone China ceramic.

Without vents, the Silhouette produces a luxuriously rich and warm ambient light – flattering to any interior. The light produced is far more diffused than the Original vented Coolicon lampshades, making for a relaxed atmosphere. 

Our Silhouette lampshade is handcrafted in the birthplace of Bone China, nestled in the industrial heartlands of the England, Stoke-on-Trent.

An area intertwined with heritage; Coolicon lampshades once lit the very potteries that our Silhouette lampshades are now proudly crafted in.

Keeping traditional practices alive, we believe, with good reason, we are working with the world’s finest Bone China workshop. 

Every stage of the Silhouette's production is undertaken by hand, using the traditional method of slip casting. This process leads to craft lighting pieces where every detail has been carefully considered by the hands that make them. Fired three times, our lampshades progress through the production process under the watchful eye of the master craftsman and their family team. 

For a lampshade as elegant as this, the finishing touch will never disappoint. The Silhouette’s badge is made from real gold, fired into the glaze, never to tarnish. This golden signature from the craftsman gleams and shines in the light of day, before turning into a silhouette when lit from behind at night.
