Original 1933™ Design

CL01

Designed to hang low, the Original 1933™ Design lampshade is well suited for task, focus and accent lighting throughout interiors.

As the bulb sits low in the open gallery, overall ambience can be altered using bulbs of differing brightness and temperature.

No matter the bulb, the highly reflective Vitreous Enamel finish remains unwavering.

What makes the Original 1933™ Design different?

No.1

The Original Bi-Directional Light

The Coolicon lampshade was the first British factory light to incorporate the iconic gallery vent, creating a safer place to work in the 1930s by producing light above and below.

This innovative dual light lampshade can be rotated, easily redirecting the ambient light cast from above while maintaining consistency of the direct task light below.

No.2

Vitreous Enamel; Made to Last

Expertly hand finished in Vitreous Enamel – a material formed of glass, minerals and oxides - fired in a furnace at over 800°C, creating a robust finish with strength to last a lifetime.

No.3

Cooling by Convection

Heat generated by light bulbs can easily dissipate from above due to the vented design. This design aspect was developed through necessity in 1933 when 100-watt bulbs burned at extremely high temperatures. Helping keep traditional bulbs 40% cooler than before, the vent also lends itself to the LED technology of today, extending the lifespan of these energy efficient alternatives.

No.4

A Place in History

A two-part construction, vented design, that revolutionised the British industrial lighting scene.

First patented in 1933, the Coolicon lampshade invited craft aesthetic into the iconic design by way of production. With expressed edges that honour a craft heritage, the Original 1933™ Design lampshade is still handmade in England to the original specification.

No.5

The Unrivalled Quality of the Craftsman’s Touch

Each lampshade is hand welded and expertly hand-finished using traditional wet-enamelling processes mastered by people, not machines.

Decades of craft knowledge has been passed down by generations of craftsmen to form the character rich products you see today.

Makers’ marks emphasise the skill of the craftsman who made the lampshade, individual to their technique and the timeless craft materials.

No.6

The Badge of Honour

A signature from its maker, every Coolicon lampshade is completed with the iconic badge; true in scale and proportion to the original.

Aligned by eye and applied by hand, the Coolicon badge makes each lampshade truly individual. The hand-pressed creases are as unique as the craftsmen who put them there.
