Designed in Britain in 1933, the Coolicon lampshade is recognised by its purposeful silhouette, vented gallery and trademark lozenge badge. Its design gives useful light below while allowing light to escape above, creating the balanced illumination that British working environments required, and that film and television productions still specify today.

 

Coolicon shades became a familiar presence across British industrial and cultural life throughout the 20th century, appearing in factories, workshops, government buildings, pubs, social clubs, offices and early healthcare environments. Because Coolicon lampshades are still manufactured using the same authentic materials and processes, productions can specify a genuinely original 1933 design rather than dressing an imitation for the set.

REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT

A refundable deposit, typically 60% of the equivalent new product’s RRP, applies to hired products. For international hires, the RRP and deposit are calculated excluding applicable taxes. Once returned products have been received and inspected, the deposit refund will be processed within two working days, subject to the agreed return condition.

Can I hire a single shade?

Yes. There is no minimum hire quantity.

What is the minimum hire period?

The minimum hire period for a Coolicon Lampshade is one day.

Can hired products be sent worldwide?

Yes. Worldwide hire and purchase are available. Shipping, customs, returns, insurance and delivery timing are confirmed individually.

How does the refundable deposit work?

The deposit is typically 60% of the equivalent new product’s RRP. For international hires, the RRP and deposit are calculated excluding applicable taxes. Refunds are processed within two working days after the products have been received and checked, subject to the agreed return condition.

What happens if the production schedule changes?

Contact the team as early as possible. Late returns and additional charges are assessed individually, with an emphasis on supporting the production and maintaining a strong working relationship.

Can Coolicon modify products?

Custom cable lengths, suitable fittings and controlled ageing are available subject to feasibility and quotation. The Coolicon team selects the most suitable available shades according to the production’s period, setting, quantity and desired character. Allow approximately two to three weeks where possible.

Can Coolicon advise on the set?

Yes. The team can advise on historical suitability, lamp choice, positioning, hanging heights and the upward and downward light created by the vented gallery.

Our Craftsmans Collection shades are handcrafted from Natural Terracotta and Fine Bone China ceramics, a material made to last a lifetime, by skilled artisans who take pride in every piece they create. Their expertise, developed over years of experience, ensures each shade reflects the quality, care and craftsmanship that define Coolicon.

 

By working with specialist ceramic manufacturers, we help support skilled employment, preserve traditional craft techniques and contribute to local economies. Creating products that are made with care, built to last and responsibly produced which reflects our commitment to a more sustainable future for both people and the planet. Wherever possible, our potters fire our ceramic shades using a solar-powered kiln, helping to reduce energy consumption and lower the environmental impact of production. And any waste or scrap material are responsibly recycled as sustainable inert aggregate.
