The Coolicon Creator's Edition

This project began with a pile of overlooked lampshades; scratched, flawed, or dented and simply set aside over the years. But each one, made from steel and finished in our signature vitreous enamel, still held potential. Rather than dispose of them, our team, with expert guidance from our master enamellers, decided to experiment. Turning scrap shades into works of enamel art and giving each shade a new lease of life in the process.

With the goal of embracing blemishes and imperfections, an inherent result of the enamelling process, and using the same time-honoured techniques that define all our handcrafted enamel lighting, we applied additional layers of original colour in completely new ways. Instead of our usual masterfully controlled finishes, we embraced unpredictability: Splattering enamel by hand, layering multiple hues, spraying in gradients, and allowing drips and runs of vitreous enamel to remain visible. 

This process was not just about rescuing materials, it was about rediscovering the joy of play. By stepping outside the bounds of precision and embracing improvisation, we created an artful lighting collection that is as surprising as it is beautiful.
